Haywood’s Historic Farmers’ Market is accepting applications for its 2010 season, which will begin Wednesday, May 12, at the HART parking lot on Pigeon Street in Waynesville.
This will be the market’s second full season of offering locally grown produce, farm-fresh eggs, baked goods, cheese, preserves, local meat, fresh seafood and heritage crafts. Some vendors will also have start-up plants and landscape plantings for those who are planning home gardens and improving or replacing backyard plantings.
Special events, demonstrations and live music on Saturdays proved to be popular last year and are being planned again for this season.
Vendors from Haywood and adjoining counties in North Carolina are welcome to participate. The market will be open Wednesdays and Saturdays, from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m., May 12 through the end of October. The market is affiliated with the Appalachian Sustainable Agriculture Project (ASAP) and is a member of the Mountain Tailgate Market Association. These organizations benefit farmers and consumers by promoting farmers markets and making the public aware of the availability of fresh, locally grown fruits and vegetables.
There have been some changes made in market guidelines and an increase in the application fee. Vendors will be charged $35 per space for the season this year, an increase of $15. Those who choose to set up on a daily basis will be charged $5 each time, the same as last year’s daily rate.
The new applications and guidelines are available now on the historic market’s Web site at www.waynesvillefarmersmarket.com. Arrangements to have applications mailed may be made by calling Ronnie James at 627-1058. |
